Gunmen on Thursday night killed Austin Icheghe, the Ughelli branch Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Delta State.
Icheghe’s niece, Egunor Uviesa, said the NBA chairman was shot in front of his house at 14 Ekredjebor Street, Ughelli, while alighting from his vehicle at 9pm.
Uviesa said: “As soon as he came down from his vehicle, they accosted him and shot him on the head.
“He was immediately rushed to a private clinic in Ughelli where he was confirmed dead.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that his pool of blood was still on the spot where he was killed.
NAN also reports that sympathisers were seen trooping in to console the family.
The spokesman of the Police Command in Delta State, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident in a text message to NAN.
The test reads: “Yes sir, he (Icheghe) was murdered by unknown gunmen last night.”
