Governor Douye Diri of Bayalsa State has vowed to depose any traditional ruler in the state who allows politicians to intimidate voters during the forthcoming general elections.
He spoke in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Monday during the flag-off of the Peoples Democratic Party campaign.
This was for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District.
According to Diri, government would trace any community that engages in such act.
He urged the people of the state to support all the PDP candidates during the election to pave the way for the party to correct the economic woes perpetrated in the country.
He assured the people that the presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has what it takes to reposition the country.
He said: “As for traditional rulers, anyone who allows politicians to deprive other people from exercising their civic right would be dealt with.
“Traditional rulers should desist from partisan politics and youth should not allow themselves to be used as instrument of violence.
“Our party will continue to bring development, infrastructures, human capital development in our dear state.
“I, therefore, urge you to give your mandate to PDP for more dividends of democracy.”
Also speaking, Solomon Agwanana, the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, said the strength of the party remains in the hand of every Bayelsan who supports the achievements of Governor Diri.
Agwanana urged the party’s supporters not to give opposition parties the chance to win election in the state.
