The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Jaiyeoba Joseph, has confirmed the arrest of a notorious kidnapper in the state.
He gave the name of the “notorious” kidnapper as Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu, who allegedly connived with his wife, a Ghanaian identified as Patricia Abena, to kidnap more than five persons in different parts of the state.
The couple are reported to have received ransom running into millions of naira.
According to Joseph, the suspect and his wife allegedly kidnapped the son of Mr. Folarin Coker, an ex-Deputy Chief of Staff in the Lagos State Government and the CEO, Plates and Number, Lagos State in 2008.
A ransom of N22 million was paid for the kidnapped boy.
The suspects also kidnapped the daughter of one Afam Edozie, a director of MTN, in 2009, for which they received a ransom of $100,000.
Also in another kidnap, the suspects were said to have demanded a ransom of N2.5 million after they kidnapped a son of one Mrs. Folusho Odegbaide in Magodo area of the state.
The suspect reportedly collected the ransom through Eco Bank in Ghana at different times.
Meanwhile, the suspect is still being interrogated, Joseph said.
