One Solomon Otomierewo of Ibori Road, Oghara, Delta State and his girlfriend, one Rukewe Urhiephroune, were on April 19 rescued from their abductors by police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Oghara Division, CSP Jimoh Hassan.
The two victims had been kidnapped while returning to their house by four armed men who blocked Otomierewo’s unregistered Mercedes GLK and took them to a bush along Koko Road.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, DSP Edafe Bright, said in a statement that the DPO on receiving information about the abduction, swiftly mobilised patrol teams, vigilantes and Anti-Cultism Unit operatives to the bush, where the kidnappers were said to have taken the victims to.
On sighting the headlights of the police patrol vehicles, the kidnappers fled in different directions, abandoning their victims.
Bright said: “The victims’ Mercedes Benz car was later traced to Oviore, near Isiokolo, in Ethiope East Local Government Area where, with the assistance of the army, two of the suspected kidnappers, one Oghenetewhe, male, (surname unknown) and Gift, male, (surname unknown) were arrested and the vehicle recovered from them.”
The police spokesman said investigation is ongoing and manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is in top gear.
According to Bright, another kidnap attempt was foiled on April 18, 2021 at about 8:50pm, following a tip-off that some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers were operating along Ogor-Ivwreni Road.
The Divisional Police Officer ‘A’ Division, Ughelli mobilised and led patrol teams to the scene, where one Ovwenu Augustine, male, and Victor Orogunu, male, were rescued.
Exhibits recovered from the scene include one ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with registration number GBJ 73 FD Delta, one black Hyundai registration number WWR 180 PR Delta, and one white Mercedes Benz 200E with registration number CL 193 ABJ Abuja.
In another development on April 15, 2021, operatives of the Delta State Police Command stormed a black spot opposite Army checkpoint, Adisa, where one Samaila Abubakar, male, 20, and one Haashimu Aiki, male, 16, were arrested.
Exhibits found in their possession included 80 wraps of skunk, 28 pieces of Tramadol, six tablets of Cwion, 15 packs of Tygra 200mg, 12 packs of blue Vega, 41 packs of red Vega, and one pack of Rislar.
