Five women in court over alleged employment letter scam in police school

Five women implicated in an alleged employment letter scam on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused – Atinuke Obaowo, 50; Keye Olanrewaju, 26; Bamipe Awobanise, 37, Omotayo Akolade, 39; and Abiodun Popoola, 27 – are facing charges of conspiracy and using false documents and counterfeit seals.

The Prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu, told the court that the women presented forged appointment letters to secure employment at the Nigeria Police Children’s School at PWD, Mopol 20 Barracks, Ikeja.

“The defendants presented falsified documents and forged appointment letters to the authorities of the Nigerian Police Children’s School, with the intent that it may be acted upon as genuine,” Nnamonu stated.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 364 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

Section 364 prescribes seven years imprisonment if found guilty.

Ruling on their bail application, the Magistrate, Abimbola Komolafe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case to January 22, 2015 for hearing.
