Bisi Onasanya, the Group Managing Director/CEO, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, will on Friday join global political and business leaders in New York, United States of America for the Africa Private Sector Forum as the world considers a new global architecture for the private sector on sustainability and contribution to global priorities and the public good.
The event is part of activities lined up for the ongoing United Nations triennial Global Compact Leaders Summit in the United States of America.
Onasanya will chair a session on Innovative and Sustainable Financing, which will explore the role of government, business and private finance in establishing innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms to support development in Africa.
The UN Secretary General, Ban ki Moon; President Goodluck Jonathan; Samuel di Piazza, Vice Chair, Institutional Clients Group, CITI, US; Global Chairman, Deloitte, Steve Almond; Hon. Gordon Brown; and Dr. Mo Ibrahim are expected to attend the forum.
The FirstBank CEO will moderate high-level roundtable discussions focused on four themes: Employment and Inclusive Growth, Education, Women’s Empowerment,and Innovative and Sustainable Financing.
The Forum will also launch the Africa Sustainability Barometer, a comprehensive, region-wide assessment of sustainable business practice, covering international companies with operations in the region, as well as local and regional companies.
FirstBank’s spokesperson, Folake Ani-Mumuney, said the Bank was delighted to join other leading global business organisations, Heads of State/Government, Heads of UN and Civil Society organizations to discuss corporate sustainability strategies at the highest level to foster strategic recommendations and action imperatives for the future of the Global Compact initiative.
According to Ani-Mumuney, the Global Compact initiative resonates with the ideals that have helped FirstBank remain a foremost financial services group in Nigeria since its inception in 1894.
“We are confident that the session will inspire new public-private partnerships to fast-track sustainable financing regimes across the continent,” she added.
