The sixth edition of the annual Kaduna Corporate League Cup competition kicked off over the weekend at the training pitch of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
On the opening day, three matches were decided in Group A, where defending champions, Fidelity Bank, defeated Zenith Bank 3-1.
The result was a repeat of outcome of last year’s final between the two banks.
Babatunde Murtala, Christian Ogheji and Mboli Friday scored for Fidelity Bank while Yusuf McConnell scored Zenith Bank’s lone goal.
In Group B, Unity Bank, three-time champions, defeated UBA 3-1, with Aliyu Mohammed scoring a brace and Ibrahim Yakubu netting the third.
Seun Mohammed scored the only goal for UBA in the second match.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, playing for the first time in the championship, defeated last year’s third placed team, Micro-credit/Finance Bank, by four goals to two.
Nuhu Thomas, Isiaku Ado, Isiaku Bala and Shehu Sulieman scored for CBN, while Chinedu Ukwute and Ayok Gandu scored for Micro-credit/Finance Bank.
The next round of matches come up this weekend with Fidelity Bank playing Diamond Bank in group A, and in group B, CBN plays UBA and Unity Bank trade tackles with Micro-credit/Finance Bank.
The Chief Organiser of the tournament, Vincent Akinbami, promised a more glamorous tournament than the previous editions.
The tournament is organized by Bestworth Brokers and supported by Wadson International and Berthway International.
