The Federal Government has assured that the three major roads in the South East would be repaired before Christmas period this year.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Works, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, who led a team of a Special Task Force for the Palliative Repairs of the roads.
According to Yuguda, the roads earmarked for immediate palliative repairs are Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway, Enugu-Onitsha dual carriageway and 9th Mile-Obollo Afor-Oturkpo-Makurdi Road.
He said the Federal Government was determined to arrest the gridlock usually witnessed on these roads, especially during festive periods.
This, according to him, would facilitate traffic flow on all the sections of the road that are now in deplorable condition.
Yuguda, therefore, charged all the companies handling various sections of the roads to deliver the roads on schedule, so as to ease the hardship usually being witnessed by Nigerians plying the roads.
The minister also assured Nigerians that the Federal Government has earmarked adequate funds to execute the immediate palliative repairs on these roads. He, however, emphasized that due to the significant economic importance of the roads, their total reconstruction and rehabilitation remain among the top priorities of this administration.
