FG commends Aliyu on agricultural sector

The Federal Government on Monday commended the Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu, for his role and contribution to the development of agriculture in the state.
The state contributes over nine per cent of the nation’s landmarks with vast land for farming.
The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Adewunmi Adesina, while commending the positive steps the Niger State Government has taken to transform the agricultural sector of its economy, assured Aliyu that the Federal Government will continually support the state’s agricultural sector.
According to Adesina: “We really commend the governor and the people of Niger State in the area of agriculture and we are seriously ready to push to boost the production of agricultural produces in the state to discourage importation of food into the country.
“Agriculture is in the concurrent list, which means that the Federal and States Governments can play big at the same time.
“But we have never found a common ground like what we are seeing today in Niger State.
“We don’t celebrate the arrangement, but Governor Aliyu we are celebrating you today for the frantic efforts you have put in the agricultural sector.”
The Minister, who was represented by his Special Adviser (Technical), Dr. Adetunji Oredipe, at the inauguration of Niger State 15-man Agricultural Transformation Committee in Minna, said the Federal Government is very serious with its push on rice, cassava, beans, cotton, legume and other crops so as to discourage importation of food items.
He assured Aliyu that the Federal Government will continue to partner with the Niger State Government for the promotion and development of the agricultural sector of the state economy, adding that some of the rice equipment being imported from China by the Federal Government will be installed in Niger State.
