Premier League heavyweights, Dolphins and Enyimba, will battle in Sunday’s Federation Cup final billed for the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Both teams are not new to the competition and Enyimba’s feat as reigning champions bring more excitement into the final.
Win or lose, Dolphins will pick the second CAF Confederation Cup ticket as Enyimba finished second behind Kano Pillars in the league and will play in the 2015 CAF Champions League.
Interestingly, it is the first time both sides will clash in the Cup final and prestige will at stake on match day.
Unlike Enyimba, Dolphins have won the title on all four occasions they reached the final in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
After Enyimba’s first conquest back in 2005, the club has monopolised the competition since it was renamed Federation Cup following the exit of former sponsor, Coca-Cola.
Enyimba has since played in four editions of the Federation Cup finals: 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
And now 2014.
It is a chance to make history for club gaffer, Kadiri Ikhana, who has never won the competition as a coach.
Ikhana will bank on skipper Chinedu Udoji, goalkeeper Femi Thomas, experienced midfielder Rasheed Olabiyi, Bobby Sokari and rave-of-the-moment Mfon Udoh, who set a new goal record of 23 goals a season, amongst others.
Udoh goes into today’s clash with confidence after scoring twice against Dolphins in Aba and Port-Harcourt, during the regular season.
