Fayemi must account for N3.5b LG pension, workers cooperative funds – Adeyeye

Former spokesperson of Afenifere and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has insisted that the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, must account for over N3.5 billion deducted from local councils fund for the payment of pension and gratuity and more than N1 billion cooperative fund deducted from public servants salary.
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Adeyeye, who promised never to tamper with local council funds if he becomes the state governor, accused Fayemi of making life miserable for retirees in the state by refusing to pay their pension and gratuity as at when due.
He alleged: “In 2013, the following deductions were made from Local Council fund for the payment of Pension and gratuity. January (N179,113.15 for pension), February, (N179,113,827.15 for pension), March (N179,113,827.15 for pension), April (N140m for pension and N251, 312,498.02 for gratuity), May (N140m and N250,826,691.22 for gratuity), June (N140m for pension and N248,256,238.25 for gratuity), July (N140m for pension and N250,068,062.81 for gratuity) and August (N140m for pension and N100m for gratuity).
“In September (N140m for pension and N100m for gratuity), October (N140m for pension and N100m for gratuity), November (N140m for pension and N100m for gratuity) and December (N140m for pension).
“These deductions notwithstanding, those who retired since July last year are yet to be placed on the payroll for the payment of their monthly pension.
“Also, as at today, deductions made in from workers December 2013 and January 2014 salary for their various Cooperative Societies are yet to be remitted into the accounts of the Cooperative Societies.
“What has happened to the close to N2.5 billion deducted from the council fund in 2013 for the payment of pension and gratuity?
“What has happened to the over N1 billion deducted from workers salaries as their contributions to the cooperative societies?
“These are questions only Fayemi can answer and at the appropriate time, Ekiti people will ask him.”
