The father of a 10-day-old baby boy, simply identified as Papa Emeka, was, on Monday, invited by the police for interrogation over the death of a Lagos-based medical doctor, Samuel Adegboyega.
The suspect was at the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday with his three children, including the baby, following allegation by the family of the deceased that he sponsored assassins to kill their bread winner.
Suspected gunmen had stormed Adegboyega’s hospital in Agege, Lagos on April 9, 2012 around 7am, and shot the doctor at close range in the abdomen.
Adegboyega later died at the Oke-Odo General Hospital, Lagos.
The deceased doctor was said to have delivered the suspect’s wife of a baby boy on April 8 but she died shortly after the birth.
Witnesses said the suspect stormed the hospital with about 10 commercial motorcycle riders and threatened to kill the doctor over his failure to save his wife’s life.
It was gathered that the suspect angrily left the hospital with a promise to come back to deal with the doctor.
Police sources who requested anonymity stated that the suspect was not detained as his new born has no one to take care of him.
In a press interview last week, the family of the deceased called on the Commissioner of Police in the state to fish out Adeboyega’s killers.
The case, which was reported at the Abattoir Police Station, was later transferred to the Homicide Department of the State Criminal investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on Monday.
A police officer, who requested anonymity, said: “He was not detained on Monday because he has a new born baby who has just lost his mother and the suspect has two other young children to look after since his wife is dead and there is nobody to take care of them.
“So his visit was not incidented at the station.”
