All is set for the mini convention of Nigerian Ex-International Footballers Association, formerly known as Association of Nigerian Ex-internationals in Diaspora.
The mini-convention is slated for July 19, 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
The convention, according to Nathaniel Ogedegbe, who is the initiator of the project, will promote football development in Nigeria, just as it will also cater for the welfare of the ex-internationals and also serve as the voice for Nigerian footballers at home and in the Diaspora.
Ogedengbe’s words: “We have seen the sadness born out of suffering of many of us (ex-internationals) that deepens to grief. So, this convention will assist in ameliorating and put to and end some of the problems that our members are coping with.
“Our memories of collective achievements, even in defeats, will not be faded, but linger on to the next generation. There was purity in our decision and so, the humanitarian effort, which is an extension of our brotherhood during our playing years, in a seemingly structured camping environment, must go on.
“We purposefully emphasize our objectives for this mini convention to be our mobilization efforts to move our organization forward in developing strategies for successful implementation of our goals and objectives in the interest and spirit of Nigerian Football.”
Members of the association expected at the mini-convention are Emeka “Caterpillar” James, Sam Okpodu, Tony “World Two” Igwe, Humphrey Edobor, Fatai Atere, Paul Okoku, Totty O. Totty, Ike Ofoje, Godwin “Owie” Iwelumo, Dehinde Akinlotan, Godwin Odiye, Thompson Usiyan, Tajudeen Disu, Andrew Uwe, Kenneth “Kendo” Ilodigwe, and Adelabu Adegoke.
Others are Godwin Okoloba, Charles Attila Kanu, Chigozie Offor, Damian Ogunsuyi, Eddie Oyakhilome, David Adiele, Mathew Onyemah, Francis Bukador Okaroh, and Peter Nieketien.
