Ex-football star, Yomi Peters is dead

Former national team player, Yomi Peters, is dead.

The late football star, popularly known as ‘Kwango’, breathed his last in the early hours of Wednesday at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Peters lost his battle to a cancerous abdominal turmoil.

In his early days, late Peters worked in the Maintenance Department at Mandillas Limited and later played for the company’s football team.

Peters moved from Mandillas to join the Lagos darling team, Stationery Stores Football Club, where he became a household name.

He featured prominently for the club alongside late Haruna Ilerika, former national team goalkeeper Peter Rufai and other notable stars.

He featured nine times in the FA Cup and was able to win the competition as an administrator.

Until his demise, late Peters was the team manager of the Stationery Stores.

He was a member of the Lagos Divisional Football Association where he was the Chairman of the Technical Committee between 1999 and 2007.

He was also a board member of the Lagos State Sports Council.

Peters, aged 74, was survived by an aged mother, wives and children.

A board member of the Lagos State Football Association, Dotun Coker, said the state is prepared to give the late ex-footballer a befitting burial.

“Pa Peters remains has been deposited at the mug and the state is monitoring the situation in order to ensure that he is respected perfectly,” Coker informed.
