Epilepsy: Police recover corpse of 35-year-old farmer in Jigawa

The Police in Jigawa State on Friday said they had recovered the corpse of a 35-year-old farmer in a drain in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse.
Jinjiri said the remains of the deceased, identified as Rabi’u Sulaiman, was recovered at about 5:15pm from a drain on Thursday along Abdullahi Maikano Road in Dutse metropolis.
NAN gathered that the deceased, a father of one, who was suffering from epilepsy, slumped, fell into the drain and died unnoticed.
Jinjiri said: “On February 27 at about 5:15am an information was received that a corpse was sighted lying inside a drainage on Abdullahi Maikano Road, Dutse.
“On receipt of the information, a police team led by an eyewitness moved to the scene where photographs of the corpse were taken and removed from the drainage.
“The corpse has been identified as Rabi’u Suleman, aged 35 of Dadin Duniya village in Dutse LGA.
“The corpse was conveyed to Dutse General Hospital where it was examined and certified dead by a medical doctor, who confirmed that the deceased was an epileptic patient.”
Jinjiri added that the remains of the deceased has since been released to his relatives for burial as no foul play was suspected in the case.
A relative of the deceased, Haruna Saleh, who spoke to NAN at Dadin Duniya village, said: “I received the news of my brother’s death via phone call yesterday (Thursday) around 5:30pm.
“But to confirm the information, I quickly rushed to the hospital where the police and a doctor confirmed the incident to me.
“They released the corpse to us for burial after signing all the necessary documents.”
Saleh further confirmed that the deceased had been suffering from epilepsy for about 15 years.
He said: “My brother, who was a farmer and nail cutter, suffered from this disease for about 15 years.
“He could fall any moment and anywhere.
“So that was why we were not surprised when it was reported that he fell into a drain.”
According to him, Saleh was survived by a six-year-old son from a divorced wife.
