Eight Rivers governorship candidates back Wike’s election

Eight governorship candidates in Rivers State have thrown their support behind the election of Barrister Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party as the state governor.

The candidates said the governorship election in Rivers State was free, fair and credible.

Among those who signed the press statement on Wednesday were the candidates of the National Conscience Party, Anastesia Tepikor; Alliance for Democracy, Prince Uchechukwu Ichenwo; and KOWA, Barrister Kemka Elenwo.

The candidates said the time had come to join hands with Wike in moving Rivers state forward.

They said in the statement: “We, the under-signed political parties governorship candidates who contested the 2015 governorship election in Rivers State with utmost faith and spirit of sportsmanship, unity, fairness, peace and progress and the overall interest of the good people of our cherished state, unanimously resolve and state as follows:

“1. That the conduct and outcome of the 2015 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections of 11th April, 2015 is relatively peaceful, violence-free, fair, credible and acceptable.

“2. That we heartily congratulate the PDP  and CHIEF (BARRISTER) N.E. WIKE (CON), the winner of the aforementioned election, as the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, awaiting swearing in come May 29, 2015.

“3. That we advise all well meaning people of Rivers State and other political parties’ gubernatorial candidates to join us and give unflinching support and cooperation to the anticipated unity government of Chief (Barrister) N.E Wike in fostering development, peaceful coexistence and good governance as exemplified by the President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

“4. That we finally pray God Almighty to give the Governor-elect the foresight, wisdom, strength and protection to lead our beloved state to anticipated development.
