Nigerian defender, Efe Ambrose, has won back his first team shirt at Celtic FC of Scotland, since competitor, Jason Denayer, is down with an ankle injury.
Ambrose lost his status as a first-choice central defender at Celtic to the Begian teenager and was effectively ruled out of a handful of Celtic matches, including the much-anticipated League Cup semi-final against Rangers on February 1.
“With so many big games for Celtic in January and February, maybe it’s a bonus for me to be here then,” he said. “I am not usually around so I will enjoy the moment because Celtic pays me – international football is a bonus. Nigeria didn’t qualify for the African Nations Cup so now I have Celtic to concentrate and work on. I’m back to what I know best – to train hard, to be at my best every time.”
But while Nigeria’s absence from AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea next month is undoubtedly a blot on the 26-year-old’s CV, he is determined to turn it into an opportunity to revitalise his fortunes at club level.
