The Edo State Police Command has confirmed that about N37 million, money suspected to be carted away by robbers during Thursday’s armed robbery attacks on some banks in Uromi area of the state, has been recovered.
The State Commissioner of Police, Phillip Ogbadu, made the confirmation in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Ogbadu affirmed that about N37 million and five cars suspected to have been used by the robbers were recovered inside a bush where they were abandoned.
He noted that it was suspected that the robbers might have abandoned the money and vehicles on realising that the police were on their trail.
Recall that the dare devil armed robbers had late Thursday evening carried out what many persons had termed a coordinated armed robbery attack on some commercial banks in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, South South Nigeria.
The operations, according to some eyewitnesses accounts, lasted for over two hours.
Following the degree of havoc wrecked on the affected areas, the State Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, on Friday paid an on the spot assessment visit to Uromi.
