Chief Eze Madumere, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic policies were capable of guaranteeing future and lasting infrastructure and food security.
Madumere said this in an interview with newsmen while speaking on the challenges of building stronger economy in Nigeria.
He said that the country had for the first time embarked on “pragmatic and practical steps towards diversifying the economy”.
The deputy governor, who called for calm and support, decried the over dependence on importation, describing it as inimical to development.
Madumere said: “Now, we only import what we need; unlike before when Nigeria was importing even toothpicks; I believe we are in the right direction.
“The effort to revamp the 12 river basins is also a step in the right direction. I believe in the next two years, we shall have stability in the system.”
He called on the Federal Government to invest more in the petroleum sector by building more refineries aimed at creating wealth and jobs.
The Imo State deputy governor, who expressed confidence in the war against corruption agenda of President Buhari, called for total support.
According to him, achievements of this present administration are being sabotaged by the bombing of pipelines and other oil installation.
Madumere described as act of sabotage and unpatriotic, the illegal activity of militants in the Niger Delta, saying that dialogue was the way out.
The deputy governor, who condemned the continued capital flight from the country, advised investors to re-invest their capital in Nigeria.
He commended the Federal Government for releasing funds into the economy, saying it would stimulate economic prosperity.
