Eagles consider spouses for Brazil 2014 World Cup

Super Eagles’ handler, Stephen Keshi, has joined the bandwagon of football enthusiasts craving for players’ wives and fiancées to be at Brazil 2014 World Cup with the African Champions.
The Big Boss, as he is fondly referred to, is taking a cue from the all-conquering Brazilian team that went to USA ’94 World Cup with their loved ones.
The coach believes such approach would assist the team’s stead and focus during games at the Mundial.
Keshi said: “Of course, the players wives and fiancées can be at the World Cup and I believe their presence will go along way in assisting the team’s focus and stability during games. So, I have no problems with having them around.
“Though, the World Cup is not a jamboree despite the attraction that is attached to it.
“However, we must also ensure that the players are in good state of mind in the competition.
“So, the idea is worthwhile.
“Like in USA ’94 World Cup, we had our wives around and also in Angola during the Cup of Nations. So these things are done to motivate the players to give hundred percent to their fatherland course.”
Keshi’s England counterpart, Roy Hodgson, confirmed that the players’ wives and girlfriends will be invited to the latter part of the team’s World Cup training camp in Florida.
The Three Lions will play Ecuador and Honduras in Miami’s Sunlife Stadium the week before the tournament in Brazil gets underway, as Hodgson seeks to acclimatise to the conditions expected in the South American country.
And the England boss confirmed that the players’ partners have been invited, evoking memories of some of the publicity that the team received in Baden-Baden, Germany during the 2006 World Cup when wives and girlfriends came along too.
“In Miami, we have invited the players or suggested to the players that their wives could come for the later part of the stay there and when it comes to Brazil, we haven’t made any hard and fast rules,” Hodgson said.
The Super Eagles will open their World Cup campaign against Iran on June 16 at Curitiba, Brazil
