Delta Police bust syndicate trailing customers from banks

The Delta State Police Command has busted a syndicate which specialised in trailing customers from banks to dispossess them of their money and other valuables.

The State Police Spokesman, Bright Edafe, made this development public in a statement he issued on Saturday.

Edafe explained that the smashing of the syndicate occurred following a series of complaints by residents in Asaba, the state capital, and other parts of the State about a criminal syndicate that monitors customers who withdraw huge sums of money from banks, trails them, breaks into their vehicles at the slightest opportunity and cart away their money and other valuables.

He said: “The Command’s crack squad acting on credible intelligence, arrested 42 years old Izuchukwu Aniebue and Kingsley Nduka, 32, in the premises of Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN) along Mariam Babangida Road Asaba.

“The suspects trailed the unsuspecting victim from one of the new generation banks at Nnebisi Road, Asaba, where he went to withdraw some money.

“They followed him to his house but before they could break into the vehicle, the police operatives rounded them up and arrested the suspects.

“During interrogation, the suspects stated that they belong to a syndicate that specialised in trailing customers after making withdrawals from banks around Asaba to their destinations and thereafter break into their vehicles, cart away their money and other valuables, and that they have been doing this for the past one year.”

In another development, on May 4 at about 7pm, the Divisional Police Officer, Issele-uku Division, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Onyeke Ezekiel, mobilised and led a team of policemen on an intelligence-led investigation about a syndicate that has been terrorising Issele-Uku and other areas in Aniocha-North Local Government Area.

They stormed their hideout where three suspects: Samuel Nimven, Ponfa Dandi and John Tanko, all of Plateau State, but resident in Aniocha-North LGA, Delta State, were arrested.

“Upon searching of the suspects, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle with three live ammunition were recovered from them,” said Edafe.
