After the formal resignation of Hon. Victor Ochei as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday morning, Hon. Peter Onwusanya has emerged as his successor.
Onwusanya represents Oshimili South Constituency.
He was the Deputy Majority Whip of the Assembly until he emerged as the speaker on Tuesday.
He is a first term lawmaker.
Ochei, in a statement by his media aide, Nkem Osu, said he resigned owing to his personal resolve to pave the way for a new leadership for the House.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon Basil Ganagana, Ochei said he hoped the new leadership will take the state and the House to a higher level, having contributed his quota in that regard.
According to him: “I wish to thank all those, numerous and many who made my tour of duty a pleasant affair further. To you my esteemed colleagues, I remain grateful for your love and camaraderie we shared while it lasted.”
Ochei prayed that God in His infinite wisdom will avail his successor and indeed the House of all human sagacity in the task of accentuating the core ideals of the Legislature as a partner in governance, for a better society.
Ochei was sworn in as the Speaker on June 6, 2011.
