Delta: Brother robs brother of N2.3m at gunpoint

Nnamdi Ugwuonwa, Felix Igbeona, Babatunde Adebayo and Babayo Ali are now cooling off in the cell of the Delta State Police Command.

Nemesis caught up with the four-man gang shortly after they robbed one Ahmed Ali of Abraka Park in Asaba, Delta State of his N2.3 million at gunpoint.

While Babatunde Adebayo masterminded of the crime, Babayo Ali, a younder brother to the victim, volunteered the information on the stolen money.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Celetina Kalu, said they will be charged to court for conspiracy, attempted murder and robbery.

According to PPRO, the gang accosted their victim at opposite the defunct Textile Mill in the capital city, robbed him of the said amount before escaping into their hideout.

The police spokesman said the suspects have since confessed to the crime and mentioned one Dumebi Onwuegbuzia, 25, who allegedly provided the locally made cut-to-size gun used for the operation.

Kalu said: “However, the said Dumebi, who was paid N30,000 after the robbery, who has been at large and on our wanted list, was arrested by operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad in Asaba.”

According to Kalu, further investigations later revealed that Dumebi runs a Vikings Confraternity and has initiated so many boys into the dreaded cult group within Asaba metropolis.

“The suspect was immediately remanded at Ogwashi-Uku Prison for cultism in 2012 and regained freedom on court bail while his trial is on-going at High Court II in Asaba,” she added.
