Delta agog as lawmaker rolls out empowerment benefits

The chairman of the Delta state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, has hailed the deft strategies deployed by the party’s elected and appointed officers in their empowerment programmes.
The chairman boasted that the party has delivered on its campaign promises since the advent of democracy in 1999 in the oil rich state across its constituencies and the 25 Local Government Areas.
Speaking in Emutu, Ukwuani Local Government Area of state during the empowerment programme of the member representing Ukwuani at the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Alphonsus Ojo, Nwaoboshi maintained that it was a directive from the party that those representing the people must reciprocate their electioneering mandates.
Hon. Ojo, who won the Ukwuani seat in 2011 under the platform of the arch-rival Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), being sponsored by Chief Great Ogboru, decamped to his original party shortly after.
He soon retained the Chairmanship of the House Committee on Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
He presented 11 cars, two tricycles, 21 motorcycles, five welding machines, 10 barbing accessories, two weaving machines, 15 hairdresser materials, 38 farmers’ sprayers, 14 groups of cutlasses, 15 corn mill, 15 sewing machines and 50 bicycles to the people.
Highly elated Nwaoboshi lauds Ojo for obeying the party by giving back to the people from what he has benefitted as he said he needed them to win election again not cars nor planes but the people of Ukwuani who he vowed to convert to PDP from their friendship with opposition parties.
He said PDP discovered that Ojo would be a loyal party member after he retraced his steps back to the party, maintaining that “this is enough reason for the party to respect him.”
He warned Ukwuani people from making the wong choice next year, saying, “Ukwuani people must present a popular candidate who will be generally acceptable come 2015.”
Earlier, Ojo said the empowerment came very late owing to the litigation hanging on his neck.
“Because of the actions of litigants, the court matter drained my purse and negatively affected the quality and quantity of the empowerment programme.”
He however said the people should be consoled by the people-oriented empowerments he has influenced in the last two years through quality employment into the civil service of the state, oil producing and servicing sectors of the economy and facilitating infrastructural development in most of the public secondary and primary schools, tarring of major roads, installation of solar powered street lights in the LG Area.
He urged the beneficiaries to put into good use whatever is given to them as the empowerment is meant to im[prove their lives, advising those that did not benefit not to worry too much as he assured the programme is continuous
“If your brother, sister in-law, husband, wife or even a neighbor benefits today, be happy and rejoice with him/her because tomorrow’s empowerment which will be bigger and better could be your turn”, he said.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, at the occasion hailed Ojo’s performance, positing that the achievement was as a result of constituency projects and infrastructural development and support from the party and administration of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
He said, “Ojo has performed. One good term deserves another. Whatever the empowerment is the support from the party and government. He has half term in his first tenure, another half in his second tenure yet he performed. If you support Ojo he will do better than before. By the grace of God l shall support Ojo, the Chairman and the Governor.”
