Delta 2015: Why I want to succeed Uduaghan – Keyamo

A social crusader and human rights activist, Festus Egwarewa Keyamo, has said he will not wait until 2019 or 2023 before Delta State is “freed from the Peoples Democratic Party’s captivity.”
Keyamo, who is aspiring to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, maintained that the oil rich state had suffered enough woes in the hands of rthe uling party’s cabal, mentioning former Governor James Ibori as the father of the party’s profligacy and high-handedness.
While he insisted that Ibori held the state in “hegemony via Uduaghan since 1999,” he said now is the favourable time to “re-claim” the state, on the platform of the new opposition government being encouraged by him.
Keyamo insisted that Delta State was underdeveloped since the advent of democracy in 1999.
The legal luminary, in an interview on why he wants to be governor, come 2015, reeled out his blueprint from the development of the state as from 2015 and wondered why the ruling party was bamboozling the people of state, looting and lavishing huge resources on frivolities for over 13 years.
He said the supposed zoning arrangement being trumpeted by the party across the state was designed to ‘steal, destroy and kill’ as the scripture foretold.
He said: “All those arrangements we talk about is precisely PDP arrangement.
“It really has nothing to do with the people of Delta State.
“PDP cannot come and impose their arrangement on Delta State.
“They are just using this fact as a measure to promote themselves in office.
“The ‘our turn’ syndrome is not a justifiable reason because it is negative.
“‘Our turn’ could mean it is our turn to make our own money.
“It could mean, it is our turn to steal.”
Keyamo said his career is to fight decadence in all sectors of the economy and mismanagement of public funds with audacious brush.
He said: “We are going to keep it consistently for another four years.
“Evil does not last too long, hence we have begun a long distance race in the state.
“I want somebody to watch the drama that will unfold.
“Nobody is going to steal our votes because we are going to match them in every way, every inch of the way.
“It is not like all those oppositions that will come out and fake.
“No, it is going to be consistent opposition until we regain our state.”
Although, Keyamo was reluctant to disclose the platform he hopes to achieve his aspiration through, he however decried what he termed abject poverty in the state, lack of basic orientation among youths and the abuse of due process law.
He said: “As a private person over the years, I have spent the whole of my years after school fighting for human rights, justice, good governance, democracy and I suffered for all of these ideals.
“I cannot see one single contestant in Delta State now, I mean aspirant, who has laid down his freedom and time to do all of these in Delta State.
“I can’t find any and that is why with all sense of modesty, I think I stand head and shoulder above any aspirant I know in all these things.”
But, the state Chairman of the ruling party, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, has since told those who cared to listen that “Delta State is a PDP state”, with no other party in existence.
