Death toll in Kaduna herdsmen attack rises to over 40

The Southern Kaduna People Union has called on the Federal and Kaduna State Governments to set up a permanent security formation to curtail the senseless killings in the area.
This was as the Union alleged that the death toll from the recent attack by herdsmen on Godogodo town in Jama’ah Local Government Area of the state had risen to over 40.
The union, in a statement by its President, Solomon Musa, said the locals have identified some corpses aside from the several others burnt beyond recognition.
Musa said: “The herdsmen wreaked maximum havoc by killing our people. So far, the people of the town have been able to identify not less than 40 corpses aside from the several other corpses burnt beyond recognition. Virtually, all the houses in the town have been burnt.
Musa stressed the need for the state government to intensify its intelligence gathering mechanism and aerial surveillance of attack-prone villages.
He urged the state government to quickly come to the aid of the injured and the displaced persons in the Shiite impasse in the state.
The union president claimed that the entire area had been deserted, abandoned and totally neglected by the governments.
Musa said: “Virtually all houses have been burnt in Godogodo, property worth hundreds of millions destroyed while crops have been grazed by cattle and the rest destroyed by invaders.”
He alleged that the government spent N200 million monthly on security in the state yet there were attacks in Godogodo village.
Musa urged the state government to “muster the will to urgently address the ongoing genocide in the zone”.
He called on National Emergency Management Agency and its state counterpart to rehabilitate, resettle and bring relief materials to the victims of the area.
