A police constable, Isaiah Abuke, attached to Owa-Oyibu Divisional Police Headquarters in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State has been arrested during initiation of new cult members.
The police constable, The Eagle Online gathered, provides the gang with guns during meetings and whenever they have any operation to carry out.
The suspect was arrested with one Emmanuel Iwezue, a final year student of Microbiology of the Anambra State University, Akwa; and Onyema Collins, a graduate of the Institute of Management of Technology, Enugu.
The Eagle Online further gathered that men of the Joint Task Force attached to Agbor pounced on them after receiving information that a gang of cult members have converged in Abavo, a neigbouring town to Owa-Oyibu in Ika South Local Government Area of the state, to initiate new members.
An elderly man in the community, who pleaded anonymity, told The Eagle Online on Wednesday: “The highly elated members of the cult group were basking in the euphoria of their newly caught members and started shooting sporadically into the air before the residents in the locality swiftly alerted men of the JTF deployed to Agbor.
“The team immediately mobilized to the area from where the three suspects were arrested.”
He narrated how the two suspected students confessed to the crime, explaining also the manner in which the police constable has boosted their activities with arms and ammunitions.
He said: “Before JTF arrived the scene, the police constable had pleaded with the other two suspects not to reveal his identity but the plot failed when they were being tortured.”
