Bill to cremate corpses on Tuesday scaled through the second reading at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Chairman House Committee on Health Services, Suuru Avoseh, who initiated the Cremation Bill, said the bill was necessary because of challenges faced in the mortuaries in the state.
He added that mortuary facilities were overstretched.
He reminded the Assembly, headed by Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji, that hundreds of decomposing and unclaimed bodies piled up in Isolo General Hospital Mortuary, exposing medical workers, visitors and patients in wards as well as residents of the area to impending epidemic.
The bill was later sent to Committee on Health Services for further necessary legislative actions.
