An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a man, Ramon Lateef, for alleged possession of a locally-made pistol.
The Magistrate, A. O. Ajibade, did not take the plea of the defendant due to want of jurisdiction by the court.
She ordered that the defendant should be kept at a correctional centre pending advice of the state directorate of public prosecutions.
Ajibade adjourned the case until March 23 for mention.
The police charged the defendant with conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms, contrary to Section 312(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The prosecutor, ASP Kehinde Ajayi, had told the court that the police recovered the pistol from the defendant on January 29 during a stop-and-search session at Orile Iganmu, Lagos.
Ajayi said that the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation about how he obtained the weapon.
She submitted that the offence was not bailable.
