Court adjourns photo journalist’s suit against NRC to October 28

A Federal High Court in Lagos says the suit filed by a photojournalist, Babatunde Ogundeji, against the Nigerian Railway Corporation for alleged assault will be heard on October 28.
Justice Saliu Saidu fixed the date following an application for adjournment by the plaintiff’s counsel, Bernard Oloyo, who said he had just been served with the hearing notice.
The 50-year-old freelance journalist and member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists filed the suit on June 13.
Ogundeji is claiming N50 million as damages against the defendant for alleged severe beating from agents of the corporation at the terminus office in Ikeja.
He is asking the court to declare that the action of the agents and privies of the NRC is a violation of his right to life and right to dignity of human person.
The journalist also wants the court to declare that the seizing of his camera was a violation of his rights to freedom of expression and the press.
