Confed Cup: Viva Brazil!

Brazil on on Sunday won the Confederations Cup after beating world and European champions, Spain, 3-0 at the Maracana.
The atmosphere at the famous stadium was electrifying as the hosts put in an excellent performance to get the better of the Spanish national team, which looked a shadow of itself.
The Selecao got themselves ahead in just the second minute when two Spanish defenders made a mess of a decent ball from Oscar and Fred made the most of their errors by bundling the ball to the back of the post.
Pedro must have thought he had levelled the score five minutes before the break when he was picked out in acres of space by Juan Mata on the right-hand side.
The Barcelona forward had Brazil ‘keeper, Julio Cesar, beaten but somehow David Luiz managed to get back in time to clear his shot off the line.
In the final minute of the half, Neymar doubled the hosts’ advantage with a thunderous strike past Spain goalkeeper, Iker Casillas.
The 21-year-old was found by Oscar with a neat little pass and Barcelona’s newest signing smashed the ball into the roof of the net, using his left before the Real Madrid stopper had a chance to react.
Two minutes after half-time, Fred got his second goal of the night to increase Brazil’s lead when he finished off a neat move on the break.
Neymar and Oscar played a one-two before finding the Fluminense forward on the left and he calmly slotted the ball into the far post.
Spain were handed a lifeline when in the 53rd minute Marcelo brought down substitute Jesus Navas inside the box. Sergio Ramos stepped up to take the spot-kick but put his penalty wide of Cesar’s goal.
And things got worse for the Spanish with 67 minutes played when Gerard Pique fouled Neymar on the edge of the box and was given a straight red card by the referee.
It was exhibition stuff for the hosts in the last 20 minutes and they probably should have added to their tally but the home fans at the Maracana saw more than enough for them to celebrate wildly at the final whistle.
