Fresh trouble seems to be looming in the Glo Nigerian Premier League as the Club Owners have formally written to the League Management Company to reinstate the duo of Nembe City FC and Giwa FC in the current season.
Rising from a stormy meeting, which lasted till the early hours of Thursday in Abuja, the clubs representatives had argued that the LMC lacks the locus standi to exclude the two clubs, stressing that this was more so since the players of Giwa FC have accepted to collect the N70,000 minimum wage from the club’s management.
A source, who was at the meeting, told The Eagle Online that the letter forwarded to the league management body came after a harmonisation meeting of the group, stressing that the directive was to avert court contempt after a Jos Federal High Court had ordered the LMC to halt the league pending the inclusion of Giwa FC.
Stressing that the decision of the club owners would prevent the court from declaring the LMC illegal, our source expressed confidence that the LMC would heed to the latest appeals from the club owners.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Nembe City FC, Chief Victor Rumson Baribote, is still gearing for war, warning that since the AGM of the Nigeria Football Federation ratified the status of his club, the LMC lacks the power to upturn it.
Baribote’s words: “Since Nembe City played in the Premier league last season and was not relegated while the Annual General Meeting in Warri confirmed the promotion status of Giwa, there is no way we will not be part of the league.
“I know people were worried or get agitated because it’s about two weeks that Nembe and Giwa have not been part of the league. Even those teams playing the continental matches, there are times they have three, four, five matches outstanding and we know how to reschedule those matches. So, it’s something that can be done after the resolution. We will come to an agreement.”
