CBN confirms Rislanudeen Muhammad as Unity Bank Ag. MD

The Central Bank of Nigeria has confirmed the appointment of Rislanudeen Muhammad as the Acting Managing Director of Unity Bank Plc.
According to statement by the Head, Corporate Communications, Aliyu Ma’aji, this is coming on the heels of the departure of Ado Yakubu Wanka, who retired earlier this month.
“The appointment of Rislanudeen Muhammad was contained in a letter to the Bank dated September 20, 2013, signed by its Director of Banking Supervision, A. O. Idris,” the statement said.
It could be recalled that Rislanudeen Muhammad was the Executive Director, Enterprise Risk Management.
An alumnus of three prestigious business schools: Harvard, London and Lagos, Muhammad started his banking career over two decades ago with the Center Point Bank, one of the nine legacy banks that merged to build Unity Bank Plc in 2006.
He holds a B.Sc Economics from the Bayero University, Kano and an M.Sc in the same field from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He sojourned through various directorates of the Bank, making him highly attuned with its operations and the sector in general and no doubt, particularly suitable for the position.
Prior to his confirmation, he held various positions in the Bank, including steering the North-West Directorate, which comprises of its offices in Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi States.
Rislanudeen is part of the management team that built the strong corporate governance culture, which Unity Bank is reputed to have as well as the impressive results of 2012 in which gross earnings grew by 16 per cent, while total operating expense declined by eight per cent: interest and similar income growth by 30 per cent, impacting positively on its cost to income ratio.
Rislanudeen Muhammad is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Bankers, the Nigerian Institute of Management Consultants and the Nigerian Economic Society where he is a life member.
