Food vendors on Monday experienced low sales in their business as all activities were paralysed in most of the abattoirs in Ekiti following the death of the State Chairman of the Butchers’ association, Alhaji Aliu Nurudeen.
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria who visited the main abattoir, where cows are being slaughtered for both wholesalers and retailers, along Iworoko road, Ado-Ekiti, reports that those that came to purchase meat went home disappointed.
Two of them, Deola Monilola and a food seller, Ayoola Aduloju, expressed dissatisfaction over the development, saying they would not be able to get meat for their customers and family members.
Also, some food sellers at the abattoir said that the death of the chairman would rob them of the opportunity to make money today, with the fear that the food they had prepared would go bad.
In an interview, one of the meat sellers, Alhaji Musa Adigun, explained that the development was as a result of the death of their chairman, saying that business activities would resume on Tuesday across the state.
other member, Raheem Olorunoje, appealed to all their customers to bear with them, saying that they went with the remains of their chairman to pay their last respects to him.
He said: “Our customers will have to bear with us because our chairman, who died at the age of 51 years, would have to be buried today, being a Muslim, so, we are taking his remains back home to Ilorin for burial.
“Normal activities will resume tomorrow across the state, our customers should bear with us.’’
