President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday in Abuja presided over the National Council of State with Vice-President Namadi Sambo and all former Heads of State and Presidents in attendance.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that those present at the meeting included President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari; Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Alhaji Shehu Shagari; and General Yakubu Gowon.
Others were General Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekan and General Abdusalami Abubakar as well as some retired Chief Justices of the Federation.
Also present were some former Chief Justices of Nigeria, Senate President David Mark and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The others were Governors Rotimi Amechi of Rivers State and Jonah Jang of Plateau State, among other state governors.
This will be the last National Council of State meeting to be presided over by Jonathan.
He is to hand over the baton of governance to Buhari on May 29.
