President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new Chairman for the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He is Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, a Professor of Political History and International Studies.
Yakubu was also a former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
He was the Assistant Secretary in charge of Finance and Administration during the 2014 National Conference.
Yakubu’s appointment was approved by the Council of State, which met in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, disclosed the appointment of the new INEC chairman and other principal officers of the electoral body to newsmen after the Council of State meeting.
Tambuwal said the appointment of Yakubu was in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and done in consultation with the Council of State by Buhari.
