BREAKING: Supreme Court orders Appeal Court to rule on Ondo PDP crisis

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the motions filed for stay of proceedings by the Ali-Modu Sheriff-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the governorship candidacy tussle in Ondo state.
Consequently, the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onoghene, who presided over the proceedings, directed the Court of Appeal to resume hearing of all appeals relating to tussle between Ahmed Makarfi’s faction candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN and Ali Modu Sheriff’s Jimoh Ibrahim.’
Justice Onoghene also awarded a cost of N250,000 against those who filed the motions.
Despite plea by counsel to the Sheriff-led PDP, Mr. Beluolisa Nwofor, that the Supreme Court should strike out the motion Justice Onoghene however chose to dismiss it.
It will be recalled the Appeal Court last week adjourned its judgment indefinitely on the suit involving Eitayo Jegede’s appeal pending the determination of the motions filed before the Supreme Court by the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction.
Mr. Jegede had headed to the Appeal Court following substitution of his name by INEC as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the November 26 election in Ondo state, with that of Jimoh Ibrahim.
The electoral umpire had justified its decision, citing the order of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The court presided over by Justice Okon Abang, had ordered the substitution of Eyitayo Jegede’s name with that of Jimoh Ibrahim.
