Breaking: Onnoghen slammed with another query by NJC

The National Judicial Council has asked the suspended Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen, with another query.

The query followed a fresh petition by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against Onnoghen.

Also asked to respond to a query was Justice I.T. Muhammad.

There are three petitions between Muhammad and Onnoghen.

According to the spokesman of the NJC, Soji Oye, the decision top forward the petitions to Onnoghen and Muhammad was taken at the meeting of the body on Monday.

Oye said members resolved to constitute into the Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee in accordance with Regulation 17 of the National Judicial Council Judicial Discipline Regulations, 2017 and report to Council on February 13, 2019.

Oye said in the statement: “Council also received a new petition written by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Hon. Mr. Justice W.S.N. Onnoghen, GCON and forwarded it to him for his response within seven (7) working days.

Council reaffirmed its confidence in Hon. Mr. Justice Umaru Abdullahi, CON and continues under his Interim Chairmanship.”
