Workers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday shut down the operations of the corporation nationwide.
Their grievance was the unbundling of the NNPC into seven units by the Federal Government.
The unbundling was announced on Tuesday by the Minister of State for Petroleum and Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.
The workers, under the aegis of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, said they were not consulted before the decision was taken and announced.
The shutdown affected even the headquarters of the corporation in Abuja where workers were seen on Wednesday morning outside their offices discussing the issue.
