Breaking: Ex-Governor Dariye to spend 14 years in jail

A former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, is to spend 14 years behind bar over corruption charges.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission dragged Dariye to court over the mismanagement of N1.16 billion ecological fund belonging to his state.
He was alleged to have given part of the money to the South West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The EFCC had on July 13, 2017 brought 23 count charges against Dariye.
He was found guilty on counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10, while not guilty on counts 14, 16 and 18.
On counts 17, 21 and 23, Dariye was found guilty for breach of trust and on counts 3, 9, 11 and 22 for criminal misappropriation.
Ruling after finding him guilty, Justice Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Audu, sentenced Dariye to 14 years imprisonment.
Banjoko held: “Dariye was in fact richer than his state, and there should be no compromise to corruption by whatever shade or colour, rich or poor.”
