Sao Paulo in Brazil stood still with huge fanfare as the opening ceremony of the 2014 Mundial got underway.
Residents came out in large numbers with the traditional yellow jersey of the Brazillian national team.
They were with drums, trumpets and all manner of musical instruments.
Cars drivers, both private and commercial, hooting, were making their way to the stadium.
Two hours to the opening ceremony, the Local Organising Committee released fireworks around the stadium.
