The Industrial Training Fund on Monday opened a skills training for 1,100 Internally Displaced Persons in Borno State under the 5th National Industrial Skills Development Programme.
The ITF Director General, Dickson Onuoha, who opened the training in Maiduguri, said the aim of the training was to fast track the realisation of the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan.
Onuoha said: “We are here today as a clear manifestation of Federal Government’s efforts toward helping the IDPs to get integrated back to the society.
“The aim is to give them a means of livelihood while they return home.”
He noted that the ITF would continue to strive hard to provide skills to the IDPs so that they can start doing something when they return to their homes after the Boko Haram insurgency.
He further stated: “The ITF is committed to assisting the IDPs in getting skills.”
The IFT boss said that the trainees would also be exposed to Entrepreneurship Skills Development to further boost their capacities.
Onuoha noted: “After the training, we have Entrepreneurship Skills Development which will help them to have skills for Entrepreneurship.
“This will enable them to organise themselves into cooperatives and then we can now be able to introduce them to the Bank of Industry which will help them to have access to finance.
“That is how the Federal Government designed the programme. ITF will provide the skills component, while SMEDIAN will provide Entrepreneurship skills.
“The Bank of Industry will then help in getting fund.”
