Fans in Benin City, the Edo State capital, are in anxious mood to watch the final of the 2015 Edo FA Cup, scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Wednesday.
Men’s finalists, Kukuruku Dragons of Auchi and BJ Foundation of Benin City, are appearing in the final for the first time.
Fortress Ladies will play Edo Queens in the women’s final of the competition.
Our correspondent learnt that Kukuruku Dragons’ fans have chartered over 50 buses to transport them from Auchi to Benin as they aim to storm the stadium in large numbers to cheer their team to a first time victory.
But BJ Foundation are banking on home support to edge past their opponents.
The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, is one of the top dignitaries expected at the final.
Oshiomhole will be accompanied by the state’s Commissioner for Sport, Priesley Ediagbonya, and other government officials.
The Edo FA board, led by Frank Ilaboya, has put several measures on ground to ensure that fans enjoy a memorable final game.
The first 100 fans at the match venue will get T-shirts free, courtesy of Airtel.
Sportswear company, Zenith Sports, has provided two sets of medals for the final and three awards for outstanding players and officials of the competition.
They will also provide kits for ball boys, while Ohonba Motors have made available buses for the final day.
Twenty team and individual awards will be given out on the final day.
Top personalities in the state, Kassim Afegbua, Godwin Dudu-Orumen, Dr. Sunny Ojeagbase, Emmanuel Usoh and Mike Itemuagbor donated trophies for the competition.
Favourites and last year’s winners, Insurance, crashed out to Inneh Stars, while BJ Foundation defeated 2014 finalists, Dynamite, on penalties after a 1-1 draw to book a final place.
Dragons overcame Crown FC in the other semi-final.
