Bamigbetan: Police, OPC disagree

the police and the Oodua Peoples Congress have disagreed on cooperating in the search for the abducted Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Authority, Kehinde Bamigbetan.
While the OPC said it has spread its search for Bamigbetan to all South West states and was willing to work with the police, the police in Lagos State said it would not work with an outlawed group such as the OPC.
The Leader of the OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, said on Thursday that he had taken the search for Bamigbetan,who was kidnapped on Monday night to Ondo State.
Fasehun said he has mobilised all members of the OPC for the search.
He said: “The search has already started.
“I have mobilized OPC members all over the South West to be on the search for the kidnapped chairman.
“I was in Ondo State yesterday to mobilize OPC people there to action.”
Fasehun, however, said he was not bothered by the position of the police not to work with his group in the search for Bamigbetan.
He said the most important issue is for the kidnapped chairman to be found.
He said: “If we’re earlier on the mark, we’ll report to the police.
“It’s up to them to work on information we give them or not.
“Whatever will lead to us finding the victim and making sure he is alright is what OPC is concerned about for now.”
But the deputy spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Damasus Ozoani, said the police will not work the OPC no matter the situation.
Ozoani said: “We can never work or collaborate with the OPC.
“They’re among the banned militia groups.
“We’re not working with them.
“Our main target is to see to the release of the victim.
“We can work with our sister agencies like the SSS (State Security Service), the military or even Immigration, but not the OPC.
“OPC does not have a legitimate right.
“So we can’t work with them.
“They’re not collaborating with the police.
“They can do whatever they like.”
