ASUP tasks members on research

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) has urged members of the union to take advantage of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund special intervention to improve themselves through research.
Usman Dutse, the National President of the union gave the advice on Friday at a news conference at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nasarawa state.
Yusuf-Dutse said that if they took advantage of the fund, it would help them contribute positively to the development of the education sector and the society at large.
He said that embarking on research by lecturers would go a long way in improving the standard of education on the country.
He said: “My call is for the members of the union to work hard for their personal development and the development of the country through research.
“It is when you develop yourself personally that you will be able to contribute positively to the sector and the society at large.
“I urge members of the union to take opportunity provided by the Federal Government intervention on staff development to improve themselves through research.”
Yusuf- Dutse also called on the union members to avoid unethical practices in their interest and in the interest of the development of the education sector.
He said: “I also call on our members to be up and doing while discharging their duties, be law abiding and to support the union in order to move the union to the greater heights.”
He commended the union leadership of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa for keying into good policies and projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the members of the union and called for its sustenance.
The ASUP national president also called on the leadership of the union chapters to continue to promote good working relationships with their managements to improve on the standard of education in the country.
He also called on the students to take their studies with seriously in order to excel in life.
The president assured the members of the union of his readiness to continue to operate an open door policy and initiate good programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the members.
