ASUP donates rice to widows of their deceased colleagues in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia Chapter of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, has donated rice to the widows of its deceased members.
Paul Usaini, ASUP Chairman of the Polytechnic, stated this on Monday in Lafia during the distribution of the commodity at the institution.
According to the Chairman, the union had decided to intervene by donating rice given the hardship the widows were going through after the death of their husbands.
Usaini explained that though the rice was given to the union by the wife of the state Deputy Governor, Jumai Agara, but the union had unanimously agreed to donate it to the beneficiaries.
He said: “Since their husbands died, the families were facing a lot of difficulties due to lack of payment of gratuity.”
He also called on the state government to come to the aid of retirees and families of deceased staff of the Polytechnic in order to enable them meet the needs of their respective families.
The Chairman also explained that the union was making contribution of N1 million each month to alleviate the suffering of its retirees and families of its deceased colleagues.
He, therefore, called on the government to take the issue of its workers seriously even after retiring from active service.
Responding, Cecelia John, one of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of other widows, expressed gratitude to the union for remembering them.
She, therefore, appealed to the government to pay the entitlements of their late husbands and offer them employment to enable them cater for their children.
