Muktar Idris of All Progressives Congress has emerged winner of Zamfara State governorship election held on Saturday.
Muktar secured 534,541 votes out of the 810,782 votes cast across the 14 local government areas of the state.
Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Prof. Kabir Bala, said: “Muktar Idris of APC having met all the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes is hereby declared as the winner and returned elected as the governor of Zamfara State.”
Bala said Bello Matawalle of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 189,452 to emerge second, while Senator Saidu Dansadau of the National Rescue Movement scored 15,177 votes and Sani Abdullahi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance had 3,865 votes.
According to the Returning Officer, the state has 1,717,128 registered voters, of which 823,294 were accredited during the election.
