All Progressives Congress (APC), Zamfara chapter, has pledged to partner with the non-governmental Ooganisations (NGOs) in the efforts to tackle drug abuse in the state.
Alhaji Lawali Liman, the state Chairman of the party, made the pledge in Gusau when the members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday.
The chairman said the agenda of the association was in line with the party’s policy.
Liman noted that the rate at which youths engaged in drug abuse was alarming, stressing the need for all stakeholders to collaborate toward fighting the menace.
He said that the growing insecurity in the state was linked to drug abuse.
He added that youths had become unproductive and unemployable as they had lost their mental and physical abilities to the illegal consumption of drugs.
Also speaking, Jamilu Iliyasu, the state Coordinator of the association, represented by the women leader Hajiya Aishatu Jao, said the union considered the role of political parties in the society before deciding to seek for their support.
He said the union planned to embark on a sensitisation campaign to create awareness about the dangers of illegal use of drugs as well as self-medication.
Iliyasu thanked the party chairman for granting the association audience, adding that he wanted the relationship to continue.
