The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State on Monday warned governors on the platform of All Progressives Congress to stay away from the state during the Saturday’s governorship election.
The PDP also alleged that the APC had imported thugs into the state with the aim of using them as police and soldiers at the poll.
The PDP vowed that its members would resist any attempt by the APC governors to invade the state.
Briefing journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the PDP further alleged that the APC imported the thugs and militants from Lagos and other South West states as well Rivers and Edo States.
Speaking through a minister-designate, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who accused the police of bias, urged all security operatives to act fast to prove that the police have not been compromised.
However, the Director of Publicity of APC, Segun Dipe, dismissed the allegation.
Dipe said the allegations “actually represent what the PDP is planning to do”.
Dipe described the allegations as “revised psychology,” adding: “We know that Fayose cannot win election without using thugs.
“We are aware that they have started bringing in thugs in trickles.
“Fayemi is not known among thugs but among the enlightened people of Ekiti State and human rights community and these people hate thugs.”
Dipe said Fayemi would not soil his name because of election and promised that thugs will not have a place in the election, adding: “It is going to be one man, one vote.”
Adeyeye maintained that the suspected thugs were being kept in the Government House, adding that his party had also lost confidence in the police and the Independent
National Electoral Commission going by the way the bodies have been handling some issues concerning the conduct of the forthcoming poll.
While warning the APC governors not to come to Ekiti State during the election, the PDP said doing so could provoke the people into taking spontaneous reaction that could cause crisis in the state.
Adeyeye said: “We warn the APC governors against invading our state.
“We are not asking the PDP governors to interfere in Ekiti for us and we expect that the APC must do same because coming to Ekiti may provoke very serious reaction from our people.”
According to the minister-designate, the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission have not been fair to the PDP in the preparation for the election.
He alleged: “While the police have been protecting the APC thugs, the INEC too has not been carrying us along.
“We want to believe that Governor Fayemi has compromised the two bodies.
“The APC brought all these thugs so that they can be used as fake police and soldiers to rig election.
“We heard that they have sewn fake police and soldiers’ uniforms for them to perpetrate the evil act.”
The police, through the PPRO, ASP Victor Babayemi, said that there won’t be room for fake policemen or soldiers to perpetrate evil during the election.
Babayemi said only the constitutionally recognized security outfits in the country would be allowed to mount the roads as well as polling areas.
