APC inducing Nigerians to register – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State chapter says it has uncovered several tricks and deceits used by the All Progressives Congress to draw citizens of the state to register and participate in the party’s membership registration process.
The PDP described the registration exercise as fraudulent, as the few persons that have registered are either financially induced or tricked to do so without knowing the reason and implications of presenting themselves for the registration.
The party noted that there are revelations that the APC supporters in the local communities, instead of enlightening the locals on the motive for the registration, misinform them by claiming to be carrying out census registration or that it is a national programme aimed at empowering the people.
In most areas also, the APC supporters even threatened the women, particularly local farmers, that if they do not register they will be prevented from going to their farms, as the membership card issued after registration serves as ‘pass’ or ‘permit’ for them to move in and out of the communities, the PDP also alleged in a statement on Monday.
The PDP also criticized what it termed the misuse and wrong application of the proceeds from the Federal Government Programme, SURE-P.
It said it is being deployed by the Rivers State Governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, in paying party registration officers and all those who present themselves for the registration exercise in the various LGAs.
The PDP stressed that using the SURE-P funds for the APC membership registration is not only an act of misappropriation but a deliberate action of denying non APC members and the masses of benefitting from the Federal Government programme, which it alleged the State Government has operated as its initiative.
